    It was a fun day for the Menomonee Falls football team on its road trip to D.C. Everest on Aug. 28 to play Superior in a nonconference game. The road trip began well with a nice lunch at Subway and a side trip up to UW-Stevens Point to visit the Pointer football team, which has a few Falls alumni on it.

    Whitnall football team falls to Waukesha North

    After his team split two games against large-school competition, Whitnall football coach Jared McGranahan feels the Falcons are ready for the Woodland Conference schedule. Whitnall lost a 48-28 decision on Aug. 28 to Waukesha North of the Classic 8 Conference, which is considered the state's best and features such traditional powers as Arrowhead, Waukesha West and Catholic Memorial.

    Despite losing eight players to graduation, coach Matt Drago fully expects his New Berlin West boys soccer team to improve on last year's 7-3-1 Woodland Conference record this season. "We expect to remain competitive in every match we play," Drago said, "Given the team's commitment to work rate and defending as a unit, we will contend for the conference title."

    Get to know: Brown Deer Falcons

    That is the primary question for the Brown Deer football program this fall as the Falcons try to do without WFCA Offensive Player of the Year Zack Baun, who is now out in Madison trying to become a linebacker for the Badgers. Baun accounted for more than 90 touchdowns running and passing the last two seasons, and coach Rob Green and his staff will try to compensate for, if not replace entirely, the immensely productive Baun with a cadre of talented, if not as experienced, performers.

    We've just posted C.T. Kruger's photo gallery from last night's non-conference football contest between host Nicolet and Wauwatosa East. Nicolet posted a 9-0 victory and improved to 1-1 this season as quarterback Brandon Kappel and Alex Walker hooked up for a 21-yard scoring pass.
