    Surprise! Camas wrestles away 4A district title from...

    A Saturday that featured a lot of little surprises added up to one big prize for the Camas wrestling program. Camas won a district wrestling championship for the first time since 1994 by picking up significant points in every weight class during the Class 4A District 4 Championships.

    Columbia River beats Prairie 51-45 in 3A boys basket...

    If Prairie boys basketball coach Kyle Brooks wants to talk to someone who knows a thing or two about Foss, the Falcons' opponent in next week's bi-district tournament, he might want to talk to Columbia River coach David Long. The problem is River won't be playing Foss next week.

    NPSL returns as Seamount League folds

    The North Puget Sound League is returning to the local high school scene for the first time since it folded following the 1998-99 school year, but now the Seamount League is set to disappear. The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association has set the state's school classifications for four years starting this fall and that triggered the changes.

    Boys basketball: Columbia River 56, Kelso 41

    The host Chieftains wrapped up a share of the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League title by beating the Hilanders. Columbia River and Prairie will share the league title and will play a tie-breaker for playoff seeding at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Fort Vancouver.

    Girls basketball: Columbia River 57, Fort Vancouver 25

    Sophomore Katie Kolbe came off the bench to contribute six points and 12 rebounds as the Chieftains moved into a sole possesion of second place in the 3A Greater St. Helens League. If River beats Kelso on Friday at home, the Chieftains will lock up second place in the league.

    Camas swimmers take title at SW Washington Invitational

    Eric Wu won two individual events, including one in state-qualifying time, to lead the Camas boys swimming team to victory at the Southwest Washington Invitational in Longview on Saturday. It was an odd day at Mark Morris High School's pool as a heavy downpour of rain in the area caused the septic system to back up and sewage leaked out onto the pool's deck surface.

    Prairie girls primed for postseason, beat River 55-35

    The Prairie Falcons have two more games in the regular season, two more games to get ready for the only season that matters for the Prairie girls basketball program. Cherita Daugherty scored 15 points Friday night, leading a balanced attack as Prairie improved to 4-0 in the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League with a 55-35 victory at Columbia River.

    Union's leading scorer had just 10 points, but 10 different players scored. The Titans played tough defense and hit free throws to pull away in the fourth quarter.

    Prairie's Michael Stockbridge connected of 9 of 11 shots Thursday -- 7 of 8 from 3-point range -- in the Falcons' 72-40 win over Columbia River. Not Thursday.
