    To promote Sunday's Catalina Classic Paddleboard Race, from Catalina Island to the Manhattan Beach pier, local paddlers gathered at the Manhattan pier Monday morning for a restaging of a classic April 1987 photo of the South Bay's then hottest surfers. Sophomore running back Jermar Jefferson survived a tough introduction to varsity football rushing for 115 yards in Redondo's season-opening win against North Torrance.

    Redondo hosts North Torrance in prep gridiron opener

    The city's expansion of its downtown valet parking program, which included added hours, two new drop-off locations and a fee increase, has stopped almost as soon as it started. With seven starters returning on both sides of the ball, including an accomplished quarterback, expectations are high for Redondo Union's football squad that kicks off the season Friday, Aug. 28 with a 7 p.m. home game against North Torrance.
