    What promised to be a close game between Dunedin and East Lake, two of the top teams in the area, turned out to be about as one-sided as possible. The Falcons pounded out 13 hits and junior left-hander Colton Widdows threw a five-inning no-hitter in a 12-0 win over the Eagles at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.

    High school baseball season is in full swing, and if the first few games have taught us anything, it's that there are more questions than answers. Is there an area team capable of making a state title run like Jesuit did last season? Is there a surprise team that gets to the state tournament like Sunlake did in 2014? Do East Lake and Clearwater Central Catholic remain the dominant teams in Pinellas? Don't expect a team to run away from the pack in Pinellas this season.

    Track: East Lake girls shine in host tourney

    The host Eagles, winners of the last two meets on the girls side, ran away with their third straight title, racking up 198 points, more than double that of runnerup Land O'Lakes with 96.5. Osceola was third with 71.5. The Countryside boys, after edging Land O'Lakes by one point last season, improved dramatically on their mark, scoring 187 to Land O'Lakes' 114. Osceola was third with 74, and East Lake placed fourth with 71.5. The Eagles, known for their middle- and long-distance prowess, got a big lift from sprinter Cieanna Nichols.

    Region boys basketball: Tarpon Springs 80, Dunedin 42

    Once Tarpon Springs shook off the malaise brought on by Dunedin's deliberate offensive strategy, once the Spongers got out and started playing their game, the rout was on. With an 80-42 blowout win, Tarpon Springs will host Gainesville Eastside - a one-point winner over Ocala Lake Weir - Saturday night in the Class 5A region finals.
