    As construction workers perform at a torrent pace to lay the new artificial turf field at Kitsap Bank Stadium, Matthew Swager cannot help but feel wistful. But Swager, who instructs video technology for SKTV, the high school's television station, also knows the facility never will host another game similar to the "Mud Bowl," which was the impetus behind him converting that contest from tape to DVD in January.

    Sweet play on the diamond

    By Kelly Chandler The WW Sweets baseball team, based in Sammamish, won the United States Specialty Sports Association's 14-and-under state championship July 7 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. In the title game, the Sweets defeated the defending state champion Black Hills Bandits, of Olympia, 5-4.

    Bears boast winning record in first season

    Strains of Sheryl Crow's "Soak Up The Sun" echo through the covered grandstands as shadows creep across the field at Steve Cox Memorial Park in White Center. The Highline Bears are wrapping up infield practice in preparation for another Pacific International League semiprofessional baseball game at the park that has also gone by Mel Olson Stadium and White Center Stadium in its history that dates back to the 1940s.

    Feenstra, Nelson Lead After Day One At Rosauers Open

    Defending champion PGA Professional Tim Feenstra of Broadmoor GC and PGA Professional Ben Nelson of Linden G&CC lead the Rosauers Open Invitational after firing first round scores of 64, 7-under par. Amateur Eric Ansett from Manito G&CC and amateur Derek Bayley from The Links GC are one back of the leaders with 65. The Rosauers Open Invitational will continue tomorrow with tee times ranging from 7:30 am - 2:30 pm off # 1 and # 10 tees.
