    Proposed high school realignment to be released Monday

    Jerome Singleton, executive director of the S.C. High School League, said the high school reclassifications will be announced Monday. Staff/File The annual South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association clinic is taking place at the TD Convention Center in Greenville this week and the big talk surrounding the event is the upcoming release of the proposed five classification realignment by the South Carolina High School League.

    New athletic directors named: Summerville hires Brio...

    Summerville's new athletic director, Brion Rutherford, leaves his post as principal at Oakbrook Middle School to replace John McKissick, who retired in June after 63 years on the job. Rutherford is a 1994 graduate of Summerville and played football for McKissick.

    Rutherford and Tucker land AD jobs

    Brion Rutherford has been named the new Athletic Director at Summerville High School and Randall Tucker will serve as the new athletic director at Ashley Ridge High School. Both Tucker and Rutherford are currently administrators in Dorchester School District Two and will assume their new positions overseeing all sports programs at the high schools with the 2015-2016 school year.

    Call settling in as Summerville football coach

    Though he is officially listed as the interim head football coach at Summerville High School for the 2015 season, Joe Call has hit the ground running with every intention of earning the full-time tag next spring. Call, 36, becomes the school's second head coach in 64 years, replacing the legendary John McKissick, who retired after 63 seasons and 621 career victories.

    Class of 2016 AR goalie/hitter Mollie Smith

    Half the year Mollie Smith is the last line of defense for Ashley Ridge and the other half she is on the front line of the attack. Smith is a rising senior preparing for her fourth season with the Lady Swamp Fox varsity soccer team and her third season with the varsity volleyball team.

    USC's Katelyn Dambaugh captures medalist honors

    South Carolina golfer Katelyn Dambaugh won medalist honors after surging to the top of the leaderboard Wednesday at the North & South Women's Amateur Championship at Pinehurst Country Club. The rising junior and former Pinewood Prep standout shot a 2-under 68 on the final round of stroke play, and she will now compete in the match play rounds of the tournament starting on Thursday.

    LaPrad feels good about Patriot offense

    Fort Dorchester's Kenneth Brown bats a away a Summerville pass attempt July 10 during a passing camp at Ashley Ridge. Fort Dorchester graduated a couple of starting receivers and dual-threat quarterback Kobe Garrett, but Patriot coach Steve LaPrad is pleased with the way his team's summer has gone.

    The Summerville native turned professional football player was in town hosting his annual summer skills camp for high school-aged athletes. Approximately 100 young athletes participated in the camp Saturday at Memorial Stadium, where they trained under the guidance of the Cincinnati Bengals' wide receiver and a couple of his NFL pals.

    Former Summerville standout A.J. Green gives back to...

    On the very field where he provided countless memorable plays as a four-time all-state wide receiver, Summerville's A.J. Green hosted his third annual A.J. Green football skills camp on Saturday morning. More than 100 athletes from the area - mostly of high school age - braved the heat and humidity with three hours of skill development and drills.

    Panthers test skills players

    The Panthers competed in numerous passing activities, including camps at Clemson and Ashley Ridge where the competition wasn't limited to other SCISA teams. Pinewood wrapped up its 7-on-7 passing competitions this week by facing Summerville, Ashley Ridge and Colleton County Wednesday and Northwood Academy Thursday.

    Swamp Foxes seem to be building up steam

    High school skills players have worked hard this summer in preparation for next season. Football teams aren't allowed to participate in full contact drills and scrimmages during the summer, but teams are allowed to attend passing camps and 7-on-7 passing competitions.
