    Huskies win season finale

Steamboat Springs High School baseball's David Brown and Charley Fitzhugh did everything they could to net the Sailors a win in Game 2 of their doubleheader against Battle Mountain on Saturday, but Huskies starting pitcher Sean Weller kept his team on life support until it was finally over. Together, Brown and Fitzhugh combined to bomb in five home runs in the back half of the doubleheader, and despite Weller's sometimes rough outing on the mound, he kept dealing, and the Huskies hung on for the 13-12 win to close out both teams' seasons.

John Taber gave Palisade a strong performance Saturday against Steamboat Springs, allowing only one run on one hit in six innings and striking out eight in the Bulldogs' 10-1 victory in the first game of a doubleheader. If John Taber pitches like he did Saturday, the Palisade High School baseball team will have a solid second option when the Class 4A postseason begins.
