    SA junior varsity picks up home win

    In the first big test of the 2015 junior high season, Starkville Academy's junior varsity passed with flying colors. The Volunteers had a big night from do-it-all athlete Taylor Arnold and he led the team to an easy 34-0 victory over visiting Leake Academy.

    Noxubee County packs focus for long road trip to Texas

    If you recall, the Noxubee County High School football coach highlighted the importance of that word in his team's quest to become the school's first squad to win back-to-back state titles. With a murderer's row of non-conference games lined up prior to Class 4A, Region 4 play, Shorter didn't imagine the Tigers would have many slip-ups, especially with a solid group of senior leaders who wanted to make their mark.

    Columbus High School head football coach Randal Montgomery knew there were would be growing pains as he tried to rebuild the Falcons program. Moving from a Class 3A program at Hazlehurst to the state's highest level of Class 6A was going to be a challenge.

    After all three Clay County teams secured winning performances in the second week of action, the tilts on the gridirons heat up substantially this Friday night. The West Point Green Wave, who defeated season-opening opponent Louisville 46-7 last week, squares off against long-time nemesis Starkville High.

    Ball's interception sparks Noxubee County

    After a sloppy first half, Tyrone Shorter needed someone to give the Noxubee County High School football team an edge. As Columbus entered the red zone early in the third quarter, Ball saw the football thrown to the flat and broke for it.

    If you ask Starkville Academy first-year head football coach Chase Nicholson to define his offensive philosophy, he won't hesitate to tell you he believes in running the football. That's exactly what Starkville Academy did Friday night in a 28-8 victory against West Lowndes at J.E. Logan Field.

    Starkville Academy wins in girls soccer

    The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers defeated Indianola Academy 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Starkville Sportsplex. Maris Moorehead scored two goals as the Lady Vols improved their overall record to 4-1.

    Columbus, Noxubee County put 1-0 records on line

    Last season, three interceptions and numerous missed opportunities played a role in the Noxubee County High School's 51-19 loss to Starkville in the season opener for both teams. The point total was the most surrendered by the Tigers since 2006.

    ESPN heading to Starkville to air 'Little Egg Bowl'

    So in 2003, Ghazi and Paragon Marketing Group decided to bring those stories to the national public by way of televising games. They struck up a partnership with ESPN and in 2003 fans began getting a glimpse into the world of high school football and its stars.
