    High school roundup: GHS wrestling upends Stamford

    Winning 10 of 14 matches, the Cardinals upended visiting Stamford, 45-17. Freshman Mitchell Grimes won by pinfall in his 106-pound match in 3 minutes, 49 seconds for Greenwich.

    Ludlowe knocks off Trinity Catholic

    The junior forward has been severely limited since the start of the season with a serious hamstring injury, one that has held him to just brief flashes of solid play, but no more than that. Kelchner had nine points, grabbed seven rebounds and added a key steal and block in the final four minutes as the Falcons knocked off the Crusaders 51-43.

    Westhill edges St. Joseph at buzzer

    Tied with nine seconds to go Westhill dribbled the ball up the floor and star forward Tyrell Alexander hoisted a desperation shot toward the rim. Thankfully for him and the rest of the Vikings, Vashon Natteal was waiting under the hoop and laid a shot off the backboard and in as the buzzer sounded, giving Westhill a 54-52 win over St. Joseph.

    On the Ice -- Lessons from the Pros

    The Greenwich Panthers girls hockey teams from the Boys & Girls Club Greenwich are like all athletes, continually looking for pointers and tips on how to improve their winning skills. On Tuesday, the National Women's Hockey League Connecticut Whale players Katia Smolentseva , Brittany Dougherty , Jordan Brickner , Kaleigh Fratkin and Kelli Stack visited the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich to share winning hockey strategies and instruct players from the Panthers teams on the 'how to's' of making the goal.

    High School Basketball: 10 Takeaways for Jan. 31

    MUSTANGS RUNNING WILD: The Warde girls team is sitting at 9-0 in FCIAC play after knocking off perennial league powers Wilton and Ridgefield last week. The Mustangs still have a few more hurdles to get over in the form of Stamford and Greenwich but considering no FCIAC team has been within 12 points of them, it will be tough to slow these ponies as they race for an unbeaten FCIAC season.

    Wilton's late charge sinks Trinity Catholic

    In an entertaining but flawed battle, the Trinity Catholic High School boys basketball team overcame many obstacles but couldn't get to the finish line Friday night as Wilton posted a 54-49 triumph over the Crusaders at Walsh Court. Trinity Catholic fought back against foul trouble, some cold shooting and a spate of Wilton 3-pointers to grab a 47-42 advantage with 3:03 remaining.

    New Canaan Freshman Boys Basketball Team Wins in Ove...

    Coming off an overtime win 68-66 versus Trinity Catholic on January 15, the New Canaan Boys Freshman Basketball team, coached by Ralph Rosiclair, played two home games this past week. New Canaan experienced a frustrating loss to Trumbull and bounced back with a hard fought victory over Westhill in overtime, ending the week with a 3-3 record.

    Vikings rally, top Rams in overtime

    The Vikings turned things around in the third quarter and eventually clawed all the way back to force overtime before defeating New Canaan 58-52 on the road Friday night. "I feel great," said Nieves, the sub on the sideline for Howard White , who missed the game for personal reasons.

    The Blue Wave boast a front court of 6-foot-7 Alex Preston and 6-foot-6 Andrew Stueber while Stamford relies on outside shooting from the likes of Jay DeVito and Nico Laveris. Tuesday night at Darien High School it was the shooters who would prevail as the Black Knights defeated Darien 53-42.
