    Fontainebleau emerged with a 34-31 victory at Slidell in the District 6-5A opener for both teams Tuesday night, and needed every bit of effort at each end of the court to establish the tone for a run toward the postseason. "From the beginning, coach was telling us that we needed to come out with a win at Slidell," Fontainebleau's Jaclyn Scholvin said.

Salmen, a mainstay atop the rankings the past several seasons was defeated twice in back-to-back outings and Landry-Walker made its presence known sneaking into the rankings with some quality play as of late. This week will unveil even more across the girls basketball landscape with several competitive tournaments taking place, headlined by the St. Charles Catholic Shootout at Hahnville, which includes Salmen, Warren Easton, Destrehan, Thibodaux and Curtis among others.

    Despite falling behind early, undefeated Bonnabel rolled to score 14 consecutive points over a 4-minute span in the first half and held off feisty Slidell , 56-52, in the first game of the Skipper Classic at Mandeville on Wednesday night. John-Paul Fugate hit two 3-pointers in the first 4 minutes and added another field goal, as the Tigers took a 12-6 lead.
