    Monroe girls upset No. 2 Inglemoor

    The Bearcats went up against Inglemoor, the No. 2 team in the latest Associated Press 4A poll, and knocked off the Vikings 52-43, handing Inglemoor its first loss of the season at the Mountlake Terrace Holiday Tournament.

    SP sneaks to last-second OT win in boys basketball

    BHS senior wing/post Oskar Dieterich struggles for the ball after managing a rebound late in Friday's game against the Seattle Preparatory Panthers. Students and fans wandered around the empty court afterward, talking about something - anything - other than what just happened, as the victorious Seattle Preparatory Panthers wasted no time in shaking hands and hitting the road, scurrying for their 9:45 p.m. ferry back home.

    Prep girls basketball: Monroe 48, Garfield 40

    The Monroe girls basketball team held Garfield to just six points in the fourth quarter to earn a 48-40 victory Friday in the Mountlake Terrace Holiday Tournament. Monroe trailed by three points with three minutes remaining but switched to a zone defense to slow down Garfield's Juanita Agosto, who finished with a game-high 23 points.

    Congratulations to coach Sonya Elliott and her undefeated West Seattle High School girls-varsity basketball team - the new Seattle Times rankings have them at #6 in the state . Next up for the Wildcats, an after-Christmas tournament in California; they're going to Palm Springs for games Friday, December 26th, through Tuesday, December 30th .

    Girls basketball West Seattle 74, Ingraham 24 West Seattle flattened another opponent this past Friday, outscoring Ingraham by a 25-6 margin in the first quarter and leading by a 45-11 score at halftime. Lydia Giomi led the Wildcats with 16 points as Emily Fiso scored 13 and Lexi Ioane 10. Evergreen 36, Highline 22 Evergreen slipped past the Pirates in a low-scoring game Friday.

    MOD Pizza opens in Ballard

    The ribbon cutting ceremony was at noon, and spectators got in line to have a look at the refurbished building and to taste MOD specialities. To celebrate their arrival to the Ballard community, MOD donated 100 percent of their opening day pizza sales to the Ballard Food Bank.

    For Saint's girls B-ball, one quarter was killer in ...

    There was a desire to win and a lead, early on, to support that desire, for the Seattle Lutheran girls basketball team, but a six-point lead midway through the second quarter for the Saints, crumbled, via a murderous third quarter of scoring for the foe, as, Tacoma Baptist came back to win, 51-29, on Monday. The Saints dropped to 1-5 overall, but, 0-0 in the SeaTac B division, having yet to play a league game, with their first one of those against visiting Shoreline Christian on Jan. 3. Tacoma Baptist improved to 4-2, overall, this season, and, were 1-0 in it's division entering this non-league game versus the Saints.

    Saints' boys basketball team wins Xavier Turner styl...

    Styling in every way one can in a basketball game, the Seattle Lutheran Saints' junior, captain, 6-2 guard, Xavier Turner, put up 29 points to lead his team to a 68-49 win over the visiting Tacoma Baptist Crusaders on Monday. The Saints improved to 5-2 this season, with still having a first league game to be played, with that action starting at home against visiting Shoreline Christian on Jan. 3. They did play well together, as a team, defense was strong, especially, the second quarter, but, make no mistake, leading the team, was Turner.

    Chief Sealth International paddled by the Beavers in...

    Chief Sealth International started with a good beat, playing to a 20-16 lead over Ballard after the first two quarters of girls basketball, but, at halftime, something went wrong with the rhythm, as, the team leader for the Seahawks did not come out onto the court in the second half, and, the visiting Beavers came back to win, 43-33, Friday. The Seahawks dropped to 2-4, overall, and, 1-4 in the Metro League while the Beavers improved to 5-2, and, 3-1.

    Spartans break even on season against Garfield, look...

    The Spartans were unable to tame the Bulldogs Friday as the Bainbridge High School girls varsity basketball team fell 78-52 in their first game ever against the visitors from Garfield High. Though it ended in disappointment, the game actually got off to a good start for the home team and Spartan Head Coach Nicole Hebner said later that the first quarter was the best for the Spartans.

    Seahawks boys basketball team clipped in overtime ag...

    T'was nice. A crowd-rousing, fade-away, three-point shot by Chief Sealth International captain, senior, 6-0 guard, LJ Burns, merrily, tied the score, 64-64, with 2.8 seconds on the gameclock in the fourth quarter, but that nice play was made silent when the visiting Ballard Beavers went on to a 78-74, win, in overtime, Friday.
