    Hurricanes rally to secure 34-14 win over Bulldogs

    The Class 5A Sam Houston Hurricanes needed a late fourth quarter rally to overcome a courageous effort by the visiting Bandera Bulldogs while securing a 34-14 victory in the opening week of non-district football action played on Saturday night, August 29, at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio. The District 28-5A defending champion Hurricanes proved to be as talented and physical as advertised.

    High school volleyball update: Mats, Panthers win, B...

    The Seguin High School volleyball team found the District 27-5A win column for the first time Tuesday night with a commanding 3-0 sweep of San Antonio-Memorial at Goldie Harris Gym. The Matadors took down the Lady Minutemen 25-9 in each of the first two games, and closed out the match with a 25-12 win in the third set.

    Young Mustangs set to face Indians, Reservation

    A young West Orange-Stark Mustang unit could arguably be facing their most deepest and talented opponent of the season Friday night when they go marching to The Reservation to take on the Port Neches-Groves Indians. The Mustangs took down the LC-M Bears 26-13 in their season opener last week to win the Orange Bowl.

    The Seguin High School volleyball team won five of its first seven matches in the Matador Invitational tournament last week, but the Matadors fell short of a chance to play for the tournament title with a 2-0 loss to Boerne in the Gold Bracket semifinals Saturday afternoon at Goldie Harris Gym. Seguin opened Gold Bracket play on Saturday with a 2-1 win over fellow Guadalupe County school Navarro in the morning match at Harris Gym.

    Marshall set to be in the mix for 5A-23 title

    Ridge Point and Elkins-the top two teams in 5A-23 last season-received some well-deserve credit during the 2014, but Marshall was hardly a distant third behind the two leaders. The Buffaloes, who finished 7-4 last season, lost a defensive showdown to Ridge Point, 13-0, and took Elkins to overtime, before falling, 42-35.
