    Colton Getschmann among UHV baseball signees an hour...

    Goliad graduate Colton Getschmann was one of 13 signees announced by University of Houston-Victoria baseball coach Terry Puhl on Monday. Getschmann went 7-2 with a 1.12 ERA and struck out 80 batters over 56 innings for the Tigers this past season while limiting opposing hitters to a .171 batting average.

    Senior running back Jamontae Edwards and the O'Connor Panthers will start the season against Reagan, one of five big non-district matchups in the area . Don't look now, but in 20 days teams across Texas will get up early in the morning and start practicing for the 2015 season.

    The Matadors will play host to rival New Braunfels in non-district play, as well as San Marcos, Alamo Heights, Kerrville-Tivy, and Boerne-Champion during the District 27-5A slate. Seguin will be the visiting team in the non-district season opener at Cedar Park-Vista Ridge on Aug. 28, and travel to face Lockhart, San Antonio-Memorial, Floresville, and San Antonio-Kennedy in district play.

    Texas Football magazine underestimates Hightower again

    Dave Campbell's Texas Football picked defending 6A-23 champion Hightower High to finish second in the district this fall. Perhaps being picked to finish second in Class 23-6A will be a good sign for the Hightower High football team.
