Last week we gushed -- with good reason -- about the balance and quick-strike capability of the Tigers' offense. During interviews both players and coaches were also to quick to point that Dawson's defense was just as capable -- and the Tigers proved it on Friday, coming up with big plays and keeping Spencer's attack relatively quiet in a 22-12 victory that sent Dawson to its first ever state quarterfinal. For the first time since 2011, Jefferson's football season is over before Thanksgiving. The Dragons fell 38-12 in the second round against Blessed Trinity Friday after the Titans' Garrett Dupuis scored four touchdowns - three in the fourth quarter alone - to end Jefferson's streak of three consecutive quarterfinals appearances. As Alex Corbett recalls, the normally boisterous Memorial Stadium became nearly silent after last season's overtime loss to Blessed Trinity. Only one feeling remained: A small vibration in the back of Corbett's helmet as Blessed Trinity fans loudly celebrated their victory, which knocked the Dragons out of the Class AAA state playoffs. The Jefferson defense didn't see any need to wait on the offense. On the first play of the Dragons' first-round playoff matchup with Pepperell, Jefferson defensive end Deshon Lester blew in off the edge, dislodged the ball from quarterback Trevor Thomas and took the loose pigskin 19 yards for a touchdown just 20 seconds into the game.
