    King's beats Montesano 28-25 to advance to 1A title ...

    King's Jackson Whitaker celebrates after the Knights defeated Montesano 28-25 in a 1A state semifinal football game in Tacoma on Saturday. TACOMA King's players weren't entirely sure what to do or where to go during pre-game introductions, with public address announcer Mark Aucutt having to tell the Knights to "line up down the 40 ."

    Mountaineersa football season ends in quarters

    Mount Baker's pride pushed junior Jed Schleimer past 2,500 yards rushing and the team over 500 points, but there was no magic for the Mountaineers in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A State Playoffs. In a game in which only the backfield starters ran the ball for both teams, Montesano earned a 51-21 win over Mount Baker and ended the Mounties' 10-game winning streak.

    Mount Baker quarterback Mason Bass ran for a 35-yard touchdown with three minutes left in its Class 1A State Playoff opening-round game against Kalama to help the Mountaineers earn a wild road win last week. The Mountaineers, who racked up 555 total yards, never led until Bass' score.

    Islander water polo third at state tourney

    The Islanders prevailed over a plucky Puyallup team 14-13 to take third place in the boys water polo state tournament at Curtis High School Saturday, Nov. 14. The Islanders began the state tournament with a dominating 18-4 win versus Kentridge in the quarterfinals. The Islanders led 7-1 after the first quarter and stretched the goal gap each quarter with little resistance.

    1A girls soccer: Seattle Christian advances with win...

    Childress converted her chance in the 65th minute and the Warriors hung on defensively to walk away with a 1-0 victory over Seattle Academy on Saturday afternoon in the Class 1A state quarterfinals at Shoreline Stadium. Seattle Christian sweated out a high-pressure final 15 minutes, including a deep free kick into the penalty area from Seattle Academy's Margaret Sneeringer and a rebound shot that sailed wide in the final seconds.
