    Ripley knocks off South baseball

    Visiting Ripley scored the last 10 runs of the game after Parkersburg South had taken a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning as the Vikings downed the Patriots 14-5 in their season opener Thursday night at Hank Greenburg Field. Ripley, now 2-1, took an early 3-0 lead with a run in the first frame on an RBI infield single by Rocky Ford and two more in the third inning on back-to-back run-scoring singles off the bats of former Patriot J.T. Kemp and Ford.

    Wheeling Park's Daugherty Is Class AAA First-Teamer

    The Wheeling Park girls' basketball team returned to its former glory this season, finishing 11-1 down the stretch and making an appearance in the state semifinals. That's only possible with great players, which the Patriots seemed to have in abundance.

    MOV Five' geared up for regional play

    It's down to the nitty-gritty now, the end of the line if you don't win, for the five Mid-Ohio Valley Class A boys basketball teams still alive in tournament play. All of them - Parkersburg Catholic, St. Marys, Ravenswood, Gilmer County and Magnolia - play tonight in 7 p.m. regional co-finals.
