    We cover 14 high schools here in The Times Sports pages - Ottawa, Streator, Sandwich, Seneca, Marquette, Woodland, Flanagan-Cornell, Fieldcrest, Somonauk, Earlville, Leland, Paw Paw, Newark and Serena. Only the last six, our Little Ten Conference schools, are in truly stable conference affiliations and are members of a league which hasn't had a major upheaval/restructuring either in the past few years or one coming in the very near future.

    Another big Cru 2nd quarter whips Sobos

    The South Beloit football team came into Friday night's home game knowing Marquette was going to be a bear to beat. It turned out the Crusaders were a sleeping bear at first, but after a long Sobos touchdown drive threw some cold water on them, they woke up in a fury.

    Marquette, host Sobos meet for Round 2

    The difficulty with two high school football teams playing one another in back-to-back weeks is rare, in part because it's a very difficult situation to be in. Assuming they are on an even footing, the winning club is usually the one which doesn't hold anything back and surprises the other on some level, like unexpectedly excelling in one phase of the game or pulling something out of its bag of tricks to get the deciding touchdown.

    Crusaders rush, rush, rush to victory over Sobos

    Marquette's Max Donahue runs free and clearto one of his two first-quarter touchdowns against South Beloit at Gould Stadium in Ottawa Friday night. The Cru scored on nine of 10 possessions and rushed for a whopping 521 yards in the 62-12 victory over the Sobos.

    Area Roundup: Mascal, Bulldogs blast Manteno

    Grant Mascal shot a medalist score of 41 to lead the Streator golf squad to a 176-204 win over Manteno here at the Eastwood Golf Course Wednesday afternoon. Nick Yanello added a 43, Cole Holloway a 44 and Jacob Magana a 48 for the balanced Bulldogs, now 11-1 overall and 7-0 in Interstate Eight Conference matches.
