Ottawa's preference is to tote the pigskin, and L-P junior signal caller Kennedy Carey will sling it often during the schools' NIB 12 West battle.

    Football Notes: Davis: Marquette 'way better' than Hope

    Having now played both schools this Northeastern Athletic Conference season, Elgin Westminster Christian coach John Davis has proclaimed Marquette a better team than Chicago Hope Academy. Davis, whose Warriors fell to Hope 40-6 in Chicago in Week 2 of the current season, was asked after the Crusaders' 41-6 win in Elgin Saturday how the locals compared to their fellow undefeated NAC co-leader.

    Crusaders dominate Westminster Christian

    That tough three-game midseason stretch that was causing Marquette Academy football coach Tom Jobst some sleepless nights? Turns out he should have been sleeping like a baby. After easily dispatching the Northeastern Athletic Conference's defending champ Rockford Christian Life and 2014 playoff club Alden-Hebron the last two weeks, the Crusaders turned the trifecta on Saturday afternoon by disposing of a 4-1 upstart Westminster Christian club by a lopsided 41-7 score.

    Westminster Christian no match for Marquette

    10 in Class 1A in this week's AP poll -- invaded Elgin Saturday and simply overpowered the Warriors on both sides of the line of scrimmage in a 41-7 victory. Marquette outgained Westminster Christian 277-37 in the first half to forge a 35-0 halftime lead, however, the Crusaders saved their most impressive drive of the game for the third quarter.

    Dual-threat QB next challenge for Ottawa

    Last Friday's 35-0 Northern Illinois Big 12 crossover loss to Sycamore is in the past and the Ottawa Pirates' sole attention has shifted to their homecoming date with the Sterling Golden Warriors this Friday night at King Field. "You can't let one game make or break your season," Pirates coach Trent Swords said.

    Prep Roundup: Ottawa tennis suffers first defeat

    The Ottawa Lady Pirates girls tennis team was right there with visiting Geneseo, but in the end suffered its first loss of the 2015 season 3-2 Tuesday to visiting Geneseo. Savanna Weitzel in singles play as well as Carleigh Cronkright and Silver Young in doubles action scored the victories for Ottawa, now 9-1 on the season and 3-1 in the NIB 12 West.

    The Ottawa Pirates played hard and battled tough with a good Geneseo Maple Leafs team for 80 minutes out on the soccer pitch Tuesday night. OTTAWA - The Ottawa boys cross country squad played the impolite host, besting Marquette, La Salle-Peru and Sterling in a quadrangular meet at Cantlin Park Tuesday.
