    MLive Muskegon Chronicle Softball Dream Team

    There was a return to prominence by Grand Haven, a school record for wins in Spring Lake, a league title for Ravenna for the first time in 11 years, an unbeaten regular season for Holton and a state semifinal appearance by both Holton and Montague. Much of the local success on the diamond was due to talented players, but some of it was due to hard-working coaches getting the most out of their teams as well.

    Indoor football franchise in works for Muskegon in 2016

    Terrence Williams, the co-founder of the WV Foundation that has put on the Muskegon All-Star Classic football game for high school seniors the past four years, has acquired a franchise for an expansion team in the American Indoor Football league, according to a Facebook post on the league's website. The team is expected to play its first season in the spring of 2016 with home games at L.C. Walker Arena.

    Local track teams, athletes earn MITCA honors

    Two local teams and a number of student-athletes have earned Academic All-State honors from MITCA, the track coaches association. In Division 4 on the boys' side, Manton placed fourth overall.

    NOYSA squads make tourney noise

    The 8-U, 10-U and 12-U All-Star teams all finished in the top-three of the postseason tournament against area teams. The NOYSA 8-U All-Star team won both games in pool play, defeating Coopersville and Reeths-Puffer.

    The 17-year-old Western Michigan Christian High School senior-to-be didn't intend to compete in Saturday's 34th annual Mercy Health Seaway Run until his mother suggested he attempt his first-ever 5k run. Snuffer, who runs cross country and track in high school, considered the idea, knew he had friends who were scheduled to run, and wound up signing up less than 24 hours before the race.

    Muskegon Catholic Central hosts celebration for stat...

    MUSKEGON, MI The Muskegon area has gotten used to celebrating state titles following the fall and winter seasons, but not so much in the spring. Muskegon Catholic Central 's celebration Monday at Sikorski Field had a unique feel to it, as its baseball team captured the first baseball state title in school history and the first in the area since Western Michigan Christian won it all 30 years ago in 1985.

    Soft rain and steady rushing defined the Fourth Annual Muskegon All-Star Classic high school football game at Mona Shores High School on Saturday night. MCC quarterback Nick Holt led the Legends' winning drive, which included a fourth-and-1 conversion.

    But during Saturday night's Muskegon All-Star Classic, there wasn't much that could stop Scott when he got close to the goal line. The all-state running back from Muskegon Catholic Central scored three touchdowns and was selected most valuable player for the Legends team in a 28-14 victory against the Dynasty in the fourth annual high school football all-star game played before a crowd of about 2,000 at Mona Shores.

    The Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association recognized the state's best soccer players from the 2015 spring season on Tuesday, and 19 Muskegon-area girls made the cut, including two first-team nods. Ludington's Jacquelyn Lynch earned first-team honors in Division 3 after tallying 35 goals and 12 assists as a senior.

    Storybook season leads to Dream Team baseball honors...

    MUSKEGON, MI There were plenty of victories, and they came in a variety of ways, for the Muskegon Catholic Central baseball team this spring. Coach Steve Schuitema said the ability to play different styles was a big reason behind the success of the Crusaders' season, capped by winning the Division 4 state title.
