    Muskegon Western Michigan Christian put pressure on North Muskegon 's guards all night as the Warriors forced 30 turnovers in their 64-35 Class C district tourney victory. "We were able to really extend our press and force a lot of turnovers in that first half," WMC coach Jeremy Goorman said.

    MONTAGUE, MI Sophia Wiard is playing through the pain of a knee injury suffered earlier in the season, but she didn't let that slow her down any Monday. Wiard, a sophomore guard for Oakridge , scored a game-high 19 points and also turned in a big contribution on the defensive end as the Eagles turned back Fruitport 43-29 in a Class B district opener at Montague.

    Johnson celebrates birthday with hot hand as Spring ...

    Johnson, whose 18th birthday coincided with the start of the girls basketball state tournament Monday night, also took charge when Spring Lake needed her on the court. The senior guard sank seven 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 25 points to lead the Lakers back from an early deficit for a 51-40 win against upset-minded Whitehall in Class B district action at Montague.

    Walker, the Miss Basketball candidate from Mona Shores , scored a game-high 21 points as the Sailors gutted out a 44-42 win against Reeths-Puffer to take control of the OK Black conference girls basketball race Friday night. The win gives Mona Shores a one-game lead on the Rockets with two league games to play.

    After passing former Muskegon Oakridge great Morgan Giddings on the school's all-time scoring list Monday, Hannah Reinhold added another impressive feat to her resume as she made it full career without a league loss following a 55-33 win over Whitehall . The Eagles girls basketball program has had some incredible players over the years as the school's all-time scoring mark was broken three separate times within the last five seasons.

    Muskegon Western Michigan Christian trailed by as many as 15 points, but rallied back to even the season series against rival Muskegon Catholic Central with a 53-48 victory. "We were in the midst of a run when Even Fles went to the free throw line," Western Michigan Christian coach Kurt Gruppen said.
