    WNC softball upsets No. 9 Pima

    Western Nevada College had high expectations heading into the season and it took just one game for the Wildcats to begin to live up to those expectations as they upset Pima Community College, ranked No. 9 in the nation, 5-4 in the College of Southern Nevada Kickoff Classic Friday morning.

    A surge before halftime turned out to be the difference Tuesday night when the Douglas High girls basketball team picked up a 60-52 victory at Carson. Freshman post player Hailey Hughes scored 19 points, three of which came in the final 3:41, and Maddy Lowe added 18 points to help Douglas hold off Carson in the rivalry contest at Morse Burley Gymnasium.

    The Tigers shot 7-for-8 from the field to start the game, including three 3-pointers by Jackson, and never looked back on their way to an 89-51 Winter Homecoming victory against Damonte Ranch. Douglas shot 13-for-23 from beyond the arc and 35-for-59 from the field overall to snap its two-game losing streak in a big way.
