    Martorano's Walk-Off RBI In The Eighth Sends CBA Int...

    Junior catcher Brandon Martorano dropped a single down the first base line with one out in the bottom of the eighth to score James Miller from second base with the winning run in Christian Brothers Academy's 6-5 comeback win over No.6 seed Middletown South in Wednesday's SCT quarterfinal matchup in Lincroft. It was Martorano's second game-winning hit in two days after his RBI double in the bottom of the seventh in Tuesday's Monmouth County Tournament final gave the Colts their second-straight and seventh overall MCT title.

    Favored Christian Brothers Academy did what was expected in easily winning the Monmouth County Boys Track Championship Friday with 127.75 points. Matawan was a distant second with 94.85.

    Knights ground Eagles to reach county final

    Wall scored eight runs in the second inning to beat Middletown South 11-1 in five innings in the semifinal game of the Shore Conference Tournament on Saturday. The Crimson Knights will play Christian Brothers Academy [CBA] on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at FirstEnergy Park, home of the Lakewood BlueClaws.

    Middletown South (8) at Howell (3) - Softball

    Maddie McMahon pitched a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts and three walks as Middletown South defeated Howell, 8-3, in Farmingdale. McMahon scored three runs and Nicolette Curran went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run for Middletown South, which won the outright "A" North division of the Shore Conference, had a total of eight hits and scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to to take a 5-0 lead.

    Middletown South High School softball coach Tom Erbig wanted his team concerned about winning championships rather than helping him reach 700 wins. Erbig won his 700th game on Wednesday, which also clinched a share of the Shore Conference A North title.
