    Dragons make it to regionals

    The team finished third in the team standings and had two runners in the top seven. The third-place effort was good enough to advance the team to next week's regional meet in Holiday, something that came as a bit of a surprise to the Green Dragons.

    Looking to bounce back

    Coach LaVaar Scott and the Sebring Blue Streaks hope the third time is the charm as they travel to Lakeland tonight to face an extremely talented Lake Gibson team. The Blue Streaks have put up back-to-back solid games against a pair of very good playoff-bound teams, but have come up on the short end of the scoreboard in each contest.

    Lake Gibson got fourth-quarter touchdowns from Casey Whitaker and Thomas Boles to hold off Largo 24-20 in a non-district contest Friday night. Largo quarterback Donavan Hale threw a touchdown and ran for another as time expired.

    Every once in a while, a team takes on a certain glow right before making a championship run - and Lakeland Christian was shining bright from the opening kickoff Friday at Vikings Stadium. Lakeland Christian junior B.J. Sirmons returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and ignited the Vikings to a critical 37-7 Class 3A, District 4 win over Tampa Catholic .

    Avon Park rallied from a 2-1 deficit to pull out the hard-fought victory over the Wildcats by scores of 21-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-12 and 15-7. “It was stressful,” said Avon Park coach Shane Wirries.
