Mississippi's top-ranked team traveled across the state line and took out one of Alabama's elite programs as Starkville beat Florence 37-7 in a prep football game played at Braly Municipal Stadium on the campus of the University of North Alabama. For Starkville , quarterback Brady Davis threw five touchdown passes, giving him 18 for the season. Comment?

Cameron Montgomery opened the scoring with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown and also scored on the ground and through the air as Shannon defeated neighborhood rival Nettleton 33-27 in area high school football action Friday. Montgomery also scored on a 90-yard catch and run with a pass from Martavious Fells and later on a 7-yard run. Comment?

Drake Gordman rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns Friday night to lead the Starkville Academy football team to a 51-3 victory against Hillcrest Christian in a Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA, Division II game. If people stood stomach-to-back at the entrance of New Albany's Memorial Gym to see previous versions of the Hotbed Classic, then they should be climbing the roof or Spiderman-ing the walls of the Corinth gym to get a peek at the second annual Lighthouse Thanksgiving Classic. The Nov. 28-29 tournament has rocketed to one of the nation's top prep hoop events, this year's the biggest tournament in Mississippi - maybe in Southeast history. Comment?

But the first-year New Hope High School football coach would be remiss if he didn't acknowledge the importance of his team's latest victory, a 35-24 win against Columbus last week. Not only did it help New Hope snap a four-game losing streak in the series, but it also enabled Pickle's squad to build on a victory against Aberdeen in its season opener. Comment?
