    Tigers, Panthers resume rivalry Friday

    Crosstown rivals Bradwell Institute and Liberty County, shown here from a previous year's game, face each other Friday at Donell Woods Stadium. The annual football game between Liberty County High School and Bradwell Institute is one of the most-anticipated games for local fans.

    Long County rolls on, tops Liberty 4-0

    Long County continued to roll Monday, picking up its fourth win in a row by beating Liberty County 4-0 in high-school softball action in Ludowici. The game was scoreless through 2 innings, but in the bottom of the third, the Lady Tide scored two runs off three hits and two errors by the Lady Panthers.

    Panthers fall short in Effingham

    The Liberty County Panthers showed flashes of their big-play capability, but they also made too many mistakes to erase Friday night. The Panthers' attempt at a dramatic comeback in the final seconds died on a bad third-down snap and a clock-killing spike with 0.3 second left, allowing the Effingham County Rebels to escape with a 20-14 win in the football season opener for both teams.

    It appears the early start to off-season training, adding pounds of muscle, power and strength, has paid off for Bradwell Institute football. Bradwell had an explosive second quarter where the defense stuffed the Bulldogs' drive.

    Panther season looks bright, even after Friday

    Panther running back Richard LeCounte breaks through a couple South Effingham tacklers during Firday night's scrimmage at Rincon school. The Mustangs outscored Liberty 24-0 in three quarters, but the coaches said they saw bright spots for the Panthers' future.

    SCHS routs Islanders 57-6 in 2015 opener

    With their first six possession totaling a mere 26 plays, the home-standing Screven County Gamecocks of Ron Duncan nevertheless scored on all six as they ran to a 41-0 halftime lead en route to a 57-6 rout of the visiting St. John's, S.C., Islanders. Opening their 2015 season in grand fashion, the Roosters will have this week off as they prepare for the AAA Westside Patriots at The Battlefield in Augusta on Sept.
