    Cuyahoga Heights football reaches state championship...

    ORRVILLE, Ohio Cuyahoga Heights scored 20 points in the first half and then held on when it needed to for a 30-14 win over Newark Catholic in an OHSAA Division VI state semifinal Friday night at Red Rider Stadium in Orrville. Brett Lowther, a senior quarterback for Cuyahoga Heights , threw for a touchdown pass and ran for another.

    Anthony Wayne, Patrick Henry see runs end

    Anthony Wayne ran right smack into a state juggernaut and could not extend the finest season in the history of the program in the Division II state semifinals on Friday night. The Generals' ground-oriented attack ground to a near halt, and the AW defense had trouble containing Cincinnati La Salle's running attack in a 35-0 loss at Sidney High School.

    The magical ride of the Patrick Henry football team came to a screeching halt Friday night, as the third-ranked Patriots fell behind early in a Division VI state semifinal, and found top-ranked, eight-time state-champion Maria Stein Marion Local just too tough to handle in a 36-7 loss at Lima Senior's Spartan Stadium. "They're a dominant program, and I tip my hat to them.

    Patriots happy to take on underdog role

    Patrick Henry certainly has its own rich football tradition, boasting 11 Northwest Ohio Athletic League championships since 1996, 16 total playoff appearances, an all-time postseason record of 27-14, a 15-0 Division V state championship team in 2005, and now six state semifinal appearances. But the third-ranked, 13-0 Patriots of veteran coach Bill Inselmann will be clear underdogs - both on the field Friday, and in comparing playoff resumes - when they battle eight-time state champion Maria Stein Marion Local in a 7:30 p.m. Division VI semifinal battle at Lima's Spartan Stadium.
