    Warrior football ends historic season

    The Weddington football team's record-breaking season came to an end on Dec. 13 as the Warriors fell 14-7 to Northern Guilford in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3A championship. The title win was the Nighthawks fourth in the last five seasons.

    Riverside tops Australia NPire

    Riverside scored on four of its first five possessions to get off to a quick start and then cruised to a 62-38 exhibition win over Australia NPire late Tuesday night. "You never know what you're going to get from the Australian travel teams," said Riverside coach Brian Strickland.

    It was like dA jA vu on Dec. 5 at the Cavalier Stadium during the final minutes of the Weddington-Cuthbertson game. Only this time, the outcome was a lot different.

    Northern Guilford beats Weddington 14-7 in 3-AA

    Tre Marsh returned an interception for a touchdown and C.J. Freeman ran for a score to help Northern Guilford beat Weddington 14-7 on Saturday in the Class 3-AA North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship game. Cam Harris was named the game's most valuable player for the Nighthawks , who have won four titles in five years.

    Weddington loses state final to Northern Guilford, 14-7

    RALEIGH Weddington came up short in a bid to add to the school trophy case its first state championship since the school opened in 2000. Northern Guilford defeated Weddington 14-7 to claim its fourth straight title in the past five years in the 3AA N.C. High School Athletic Association state title game Saturday night at Carter-Finley Stadium.

    Weddington's backup quarterback thriving in starting...

    Sophomore David Bayha had been the starter previously, throwing for 1,608 yards and 22 touchdowns before being sidelined with a fractured fibula leading up to the Warriors' football game against Marvin Ridge Nov. 7. Willingham has thrown for 946 yards and 12 touchdowns with just three interceptions this season, leading Weddington through the playoffs and to the first state championship appearance in the school's 15-year history. "We knew Grayson could do it," said fourth-year Weddington coach Tim Carson.
