    Prep postseason starts this weekend

    The push for the state tournament begins this weekend when the Oak Harbor High School wrestling teams get the postseason started at their sub-regional meets. The Oak Harbor swim team's regular season is complete and the Wildcats will hit the district waters Feb. 12 and 13. Although one regular-season game remains, both Coupeville basketball teams locked up district berths last week.

    As a sophomore, Everett's Candice Goldfinch placed second at the 3A/2A state high school girls bowling championships, finishing just four pins behind the winner. She also came close to an individual title in her other two state appearances - finishing eighth as a freshman and fifth as a junior - but coming up a mere four pins short as a sophomore is something she calls "a huge motivator."

    No margin of error remains for the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team if it wants to reach the postseason. After losing 41-31 at Marysville Getchell Wednesday, Feb. 3, the Wildcats need to win their final two games and receive a little help to advance past the regular season.

    Kispert, a junior, scored 32 points and made six 3-pointers in a 68-44 win over Granite Falls on Tuesday. Kispert also had 26 points in an 81-35 win over Cedarcrest on Friday.

    Wildcats fall to unbeaten Eagles | Girls basketball

    The Arlington High School girls basketball team continued its undefeated run through the 2015-16 season by beating visiting Oak Harbor 53-19 Friday, Jan. 29. The Eagles, ranked third in the 3A state poll, upped their record to 17-0, 7-0 in the Wesco North. Oak Harbor fell to 1-6 in league with the loss and remains a game behind Everett for fourth place and the final district tournament berth with three games remaining.
