With several key returning players and the additions of transfers Drew Magaoay and D'Andre Bryant, Wesco 4A coaches picked the Bruins, who earned six of a possible seven first-place votes, to win the league championship this season.

    Girls basketball preview: 5 to watch

    Castaneda, a senior and a three-year starter, was a first-team All-Wesco 3A North selection last season and was named to the All-3A State Tournament second team. Castaneda shot 55 percent from the field and 59 percent from 3-point range as a junior and is the leading-returning scorer for the Eagles, who have made it to the state tournament the past three seasons.
