    St. Marys Invite begins today

    The St. Marys boys and girls basketball teams are set to play host to the 11th annual St. Marys Invitational today through Saturday, and they'll bring in teams from around the region to join them. Howard Meeks' St. Marys girls will look to use the tournament to extend their current season-long two-game win streak and rise above the .500 mark, where Mark Barnhart's 6-1 boys are off to a hot start and hoping to keep pace with strong Williamstown and Ravenswood teams in the rugged Little Kanawha Conference West Division.

    Girls basketball programs hit mid-season

    Though it is only the third week of January in the new year, West Virginia High School girls basketball teams have hit the mid-point of their seasons, with Sectionals looming on Feb. 21. Both the Tyler Consolidated and Paden City programs continue to battle, grow and learn and hope to end the season fundamentally better than when they started. Still working on solidifying their roles on the team, the Lady Knight varsity basketball team hosted two contests last week, coming out on the short end of the score both times.

    Fort Frye blazes by Buckeye Trail

    Fort Frye shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the first half, including a 6 for 11 effort in an 18-3 second quarter, and 47 percent for the game as the Cadets drilled visiting Buckeye Trail 66-30 here Friday night. Everybody that stepped on the court and took a shot for the Cadets scored and seven different players recorded assists as Fort Frye hit nearly as many field goals as the Warriors had total points in the contest.
