    South Elgin outlasts Larkin in overtime

    Marlee Kyles turned in one more vintage performance in her final game at Larkin, but it wasn't enough to stop clutch-shooting and top-seeded South Elgin Tuesday night in the Class 4A Larkin regional semifinals. Kyles scored 36 points including what could have been the game-winner in the controversial closing seconds of regulation.

    Harvest Christian completes perfect NAC season

    Both teams played with a high level of intensity and displayed their emotion after key plays. Two times during the third quarter, officials felt Harvest Christian reacted too strongly and hit the Lions with technicals.

    Streamwood struggles but gets past Elgin

    There was a lot to overcome for the Streamwood girls basketball team on Monday night. Not only were the Sabres without their star post player Jenejha Williams, who was ineligible after picking up 2 technical fouls in the regular season finale, but the Sabres also had to survive a disastrous shooting night from the field and at the free throw line, plus a decided disadvantage on the boards.

    Kyles (34) closes in on 2,000 as Larkin surprises St...

    With the playoffs looming right around the corner next week the Larkin girls basketball team picked just the right time to play possibly its best game of the season on Tuesday night. An impressive 61-54 win on senior night over visiting St. Charles North in Upstate Eight River Division action should provide the Royals with plenty of momentum moving forward.

    Emotional start, 3s send Lady Cru to victory

    The first two points scored in a basketball game that ends up a one-sided 29-point decision usually don't mean that much, but they sure meant a lot Saturday afternoon in Bader Gymnasium. Senior Maddie Dougherty, who was thought lost for the season when she suffered two torn ligaments in her right knee just before its very first game, was able to finish her standout basketball career on a high note, thanks to an agreement between the Lady Crusaders and Elgin Westminster Christian.

    Geneva basketball player Jack McDonald named St. Cha...

    McDonald scored a career-high 21 points against Larkin on Jan. 27 and had 12 points and two alley-oop passes for dunks against Antioch a day later as Geneva remained undefeated on the season. Geneva point guard Jack McDonald has come into his own as one of the better point guards in the area.

    St. Charles North gets defensive with Elgin

    Coming off a pair of disheartening losses to Batavia and St. Charles East, the North Stars tightened the screws defensively and emerged with a 47-32 Upstate Eight Conference River Division triumph over Elgin at Chesbrough Field House. Limiting the Maroons to 2 of 12 shooting in the first quarter, the North Stars jumped out to a 13-4 lead that could have been bigger if not for their 7 turnovers.

    South Elgin earns first conference championship

    Avenging its last loss, a 60-46 defeat at West Aurora on Jan. 13, South Elgin won its seventh straight game and clinched its first Upstate Eight title in girls basketball outright by knocking off the visiting Blackhawks 64-44. Senior guard Teagan Pompa scored 16 points, senior center Mackie Kelleher had 14 points, senior forward Grace Franks finished with 13 points and senior guard Emmy McIntosh added 11 points in a balanced attack for South Elgin .

    Ivy's big night helps Larkin past Streamwood

    With mounting injuries this season for the Larkin boys basketball team Kashmir Ivy has been asked to take on a more prominent scoring role and the senior guard has been up to the challenge. Ivy scored a game-high 26 points on Tuesday night to lead the Royals past visiting Streamwood 70-57 in Upstate Eight River Division action.
