    The surprise wasn't so much that the Oak Harbor High School volleyball team defeated first-place Shorewood on the Thunderbirds' floor Wednesday, Oct. 29, but that the Wildcats did it with a 3-0 shutout. The win in the regular season's final game lifted Oak Harbor into a three-way tie for second place with Arlington and Edmonds-Woodway , one game back of Shorewood .

    Shorewood takes sole possession of 1st place

    The Shorewood volleyball team was forced to start the season without senior setter Sidra Thorkildsen, who transferred from Bishop Blanchet, until she was determined eligible by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. Thorkildsen helped Shorewood to its ninth consecutive victory on Thursday, a 3-0 sweep over Edmonds-Woodway, which was tied with the Thunderbirds for first place coming into the match.

    Edmonds-Woodway blocked a first-quarter punt that led to a quick score and the Warriors hit on three touchdowns passes on successive drives en route to a 55-14 victory over Shorewood on Friday night in a game that Edmonds-Woodway had to have to stay in contention for a playoff berth. Chantz Justice has 105 rushing yards on 20 carries and a touchdown for the Warriors, and his success on the ground opened up the play-action game for quarterback Nick Morales.
