    Hall headed to Concord for hoops

    Michael Hall, the last of the Big 3 who helped the Warren boys basketball team earn a 2012-13 state tournament berth, will be competing at the next level. In a ceremony in Warriors Gym on Thursday afternoon, the 6-foot-6 Hall signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his education and play basketball at Concord University next season.

    If nothing else, Nick Bapst of Grove City and Jordan Dartis of Newark got in a healthy workout in the Division I-II North-South all-star basketball game yesterday at Capital University. Because of no-shows and injuries, the South squad dressed only seven players.

    The University of Cincinnati's baseball program hasn't been to the College World Series since 1974. They haven't gotten much attention due to some rough seasons.

    Emptying the notebook

    Over the next two weekends, the Ohio North-South all-star games will be staged in basketball and football. These events used to be a much bigger deal to the participants and the fans, but as columnist Bob Hunter pointed out in his column about dwindling attendance at the state tournaments, the landscape is simply different now with people having so many activities and options to choose from.
