    To say Amador Valley-Pleasanton freshman Danielle Williams had large cleats to fill is an understatement. To say she did so admirably would be an even greater one.

    College Park's DeMers is Metro Player of the Year

    The College Park-Pleasant Hill senior and Chronicle Metro Player of the Year capped one of the greatest baseball prep careers in Bay Area history with one of its most impressive seasons. And the 6-foot-2 pitcher and infielder closed it all with a 5-2 North Coast Section Division I championship victory over De La Salle, the team that handed him his only defeat of the season.

    EBAL stars compete at USA track outdoor nationals

    Several former and current East Bay Athletic League high school athletes had impressive showings at the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships on June 26 at Eugene, Oregon De La Salle High graduate Marquis Morris, who competed this spring as a freshman for USC, placed second in the men's 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 13.29 seconds. He qualified to compete in the Pan American Junior Championships from July 31-Aug. 2 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

    All-East Bay girls track and field team

    KENNEDY JONES, Castro Valley, triple jump, Sr. -- The Boston University-bound Jones won the CIF state championship with a personal-record leap of 42 feet, 51/4 inches. It was the top mark in the event in California this past season, and ranked third in the nation according to DyeStat.com .
