    SDSU tries to capture younger Cage

    St. Augustine's Martin Tombe goes up against Mater Dei's Michael Cage in the first half. Hayne Palmour IV - UT San Diego Alexis Cage is 6-foot-2, the daughter of Michael Cage, a 6-9 power forward from San Diego State who played in the NBA for 15 years and won the 1998 rebounding crown when he needed 28 boards in the season's final game and got 30. She is a sophomore outside hitter on SDSU's volleyball team and was asked earlier this week if he she ever played basketball.

    Eastlake Titans unveil class act in 14-13 loss

    Eastlake High School football coach Lee Price called last Friday's season opener against visiting La Serna "a very special day." No, the host Titans did not score an upset win over the Los Angeles County powerhouse, though they did make it exciting with a failed two-point conversion in the game's dying minutes to fall, 14-13, in the non-league encounter.

    There is nothing more powerful than the human spirit and the will to win is especially strong this year on the Bonita Vista High School football team. The Barons kicked off what looks to be a season of genuine promise last Friday by defeating the Vista Panthers, 12-0, in a non-league game at Southwestern College.

    The high school football kicked off Friday night. For those fans who defense served up on the field, the place to be was at Castle Park High School as the host Trojans and visiting Hilltop Lancers fought to a scoreless stalemate until the offenses for both teams finally broke through in the fourth quarter.

    Poway mayor pushes to ban drones near fires

    On Tuesday, the mayor of Poway pushed to ban drones near fire scenes and other emergencies in an effort to crack down on drone operators who get in the way of first responders. The mayor said he wants an urgent no drone zone around fires because he fears what will happen when wildfires spark in Southern California, and drones slow the firefighting efforts.
