    It was the final time the five seniors on the Chico High volleyball team would play on their home court, so they had their sights set on a victory. Tuesday night, the Panthers downed Red Bluff 3-0 in the regular-season home finale at Chico High's Lincoln Field House.

    Weldon field goal lifts Bobcats over Shasta

    Jacob Weldon hit a 25-yard field goal with three seconds to go to hand the Paradise High varsity football team a 10-7 win Friday night over visiting Shasta High. It was the third straight thrilling victory for the Bobcats and moved them into a tie atop the Eastern Athletic League at 3-0 with idle Pleasant Valley.

    Panther defense turns away upset attempt

    It was the opening possession Friday night and the Chico High football team was quickly backed down at its own 2-yard line as Enterprise prepared to go for the touchdown on fourth down. But senior quarterback Leslie Cummings was stopped cold on a sneak up the middle, turning it back over to Chico less than two minutes into action at the new Chico Panther Community Stadium.

    Maehl-dominated year

    Adding yet another accomplishment to one of the most impressive prep campaigns in local sports history, Maehl was named Chico Sportsperson of the Year on Tuesday night at the 35th annual Chico Sports Hall of Fame and Senior Athletes Banquet at the Chico Elks Lodge. The list of accolades for Maehl in his senior season is a long one: In the fall, he led the Bobcat football team to the Northern Section Division I championship, picking up a first-team spot on the all-section squad.

    Football: Vikings overwhelm Spartans 43-14

    The Vikings came out punching Friday and by halftime were up 37-7, tacking on another score in the fourth and giving up one late for a 43-14 win to open Eastern Athletic League play. Pleasant Valley wasted no time, driving the field on the opening drive before Tanner Hughes hit Caleb Cooley from the Red Bluff 5 to get on the board first.
