Based on Juwan Green's 4-second, 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, the Martinsburg senior might be the fastest man alive anywhere. Of course, the actual return took longer than four seconds, but that was all the time that officially elapsed off the scoreboard for his TD return that tied the Class AAA quarterfinal game 14-all at halftime against Capital at Laidley Field. Winfield kept its girls soccer dynasty rolling in the 2015 Class AAA ranks, capturing a fourth straight state tournament title with a 3-1 win over Parkersburg. But neither of those teams had the most representatives on the West Virginia Sports Writers Association Class AAA girls soccer all-state first team. Comment?

All season, the Robert C. Byrd girls soccer team showed it had a wide variety of threats all over the field that could make the defenses pay en route to its first-ever appearance in the state tournament. One of the big reasons for that success was the play of central midfielder Jordan Smith. Comment?

Had it not been for Washington defender Kyle Rodriguez's heroics, neither Stone Sanders nor Sam Vaira might've received the opportunities they did to score goals in the Patriots' 2-0 victory Friday over Winfield to advance into today's state Class AAA championship boys soccer game. A shot by the Generals in the 24th minute was headed to an open right side of the net when Rodriguez charged across the goal mouth and cleared it out of danger. Comment?
