Raleigh Millbrook leadoff hitter Scott McKeon did plenty of damage at the plate to lead his team to a 5-0 win over East Chapel Hill in the first round of the state 4-A playoffs on Tuesday. McKeon went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs against East Chapel Hill as Millbrook wrapped out eight hits against the Wildcats. Comment?

Hillside finished second in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4-A boys' track and field championships thanks to a strong showing by Marcus Krah and McKinly Brown. Krah ran his two fastest 110 hurdles races but only came up with a second-place finish in the finals as Emmanuel Jackson of Raleigh Sanderson surged for the win in the final three hurdles. Comment?

Carrboro wrestler Dante Veltri and Wilmington Hoggard football coach and athletics director Scott Braswell received the NCHSAA's A.J. "Tony" Simeon Courage Award on Thursday during the association's annual meeting. Veltri was recognized for overcoming the adversity that accompanies battling cancer. Comment?

East Chapel Hill coach Phil Woodell has seen his team play its best baseball as the regular season has wound down and with one game remaining today against Hillside, the Wildcats hold out hope for a second-place finish in the PAC-6. East Chapel Hill , which won for the seventh time in nine games on Tuesday, overcame one of the hurdles to get there by beating Jordan 3-0 thanks to a three-hit, complete-game shutout by John Blue. Hillside High School posted a pair of top-five team finishes at the 4-A Midwest Regional track championships at Greensboro Dudley on Saturday. The boys finished second to Jamestown Ragsdale by a half point 68.5-68, while the girls scored 65 points and came in third behind Winston-Salem Parkland and High Point Central . Comment?
