    Bulldogs hold off late Cougar charge

    Van Wert whittled a 13-point second half deficit down to four, but could get no closer, as Celina held on for a 64-55 Western Buckeye League win on Friday night. The Bulldogs opened the game with two easy buckets as Kole Murlin and Caleb Hoying scored for Celina.

    Celina jumps ahead early, holds off Lady Cougars

    Celina's girls basketball team dominated the early going on Thursday in a Western Buckeye League game at Van Wert, then watched as the Lady Cougars tightened the scoreboard late in a 43-31 Lady Bulldog win. Kelly Stahl for Celina and Abby Jackson for Van Wert exchanged baskets to start the game before the Lady Dogs got 12 straight points including one 3-pointer from Heather Heiby and one from Haley McGillvary to make the score 14-2.

    Brackets set for OHSAA girls tourney

    High school girls basketball teams found out their tournament pairings on Sunday with a pair of local squads picking up top-four seeds in their respective draws. In Division IV, Crestview garnered the third seed at the Wapakoneta district while Wayne Trace was tabbed as the fourth seed in the district hosted by Ottawa-Glandorf.

    Bulldogs shut down 'Riders

    The Bulldogs pulled away in the first quarter and never had to look over their shoulders in improving to 2-4 in the Western Buckeye League boys basketball standings with a 60-26 win in the Battle of Grand Lake on Friday night at Murotech Court in St. Marys. While the Bulldogs posted their second-best offensive output of the season, it was defense that took to the center ring on the evening.

    Celina Blows Out St. Marys

    The Celina Bulldogs student section cheered "MVP,MVP" as Caleb Hoyng was approaching the free throw line in the fourth quarter of an already decided match-up. And just like in football back in October as he led the Bulldogs to a win over St. Marys, Hoyng was again the thorn in the Roughriders' side Friday night in a 60-26 Western Buckeye League varsity boys basketball game blowout at St. Marys Memorial High School.

    Roughriders Lose Close Game To Celina

    St. Marys Roughriders varsity girls basketball coach Nikki Miars wanted to see her defense improve in Thursday night's Western Buckeye League match against rival Celina. She got what she wanted - in spurts - but constant demand for rebounding the ball - especially on the offensive side - fell on deaf ears in the Roughriders 53-49 loss to the Bulldogs Thursday night at Celina Fieldhouse.

    Girls Basketball: Major MAC Showdown Tonight

    The battle for Grand Lake St. Marys is here, the girls basketball version that is. Though each team is - for the most part - out of the race in winning the Western Buckeye League, there is still much at stake, seeding for the upcoming girls basketball sectional round.

    Poor Shooting, Rebounding Sink Roughriders

    Nevertheless, the Roughriders varsity girls team did not play at its best Thursday in a shocking and disappointing 59-36 Western Buckeye League loss at home. Right from the start, the Wildcats dominated the game, setting a tone for how the night was going to be for the Roughriders.
