    6 Bartow ballplayers make all-star teams

    Several Bartow baseball players had strong seasons this year, and some of them have been rewarded by playing on postseason all-star teams. Adairsville's Lane Griffith and Cartersville's Elliott Anderson will be members of Team Georgia in the Sunbelt Classic, while Cartersville's Lane Wilson and Micah Smith, Cass' Bradley Hood and Woodland's Braden Harris will be a part of the Georgia Dugout Club Senior All-Star Team.

    Cass hires David Brock as head basketball coach

    Replacing the recently deceased Greg Scott as the Cass High head boys basketball coach will not be an easy task. That man will be 24-year-old David Brock, who has spent time coaching in Europe and as an assistant with Division I Oakland University ina SMichigan.

    For opponents, Buford's pitching results in a whirlwind of whiffs, scuffed dirt and long walks back to the dugout. Behind the strong arms of Keyton Gibson and Justin Glover, Buford swept fifth-ranked Cartersville Tuesday evening to reach the Class AAAA state championship series against Whitewater.

    Colonels take 2nd alumni game

    Cass won its second straight alumni game, but it was the athletic programs of Cass and Cartersville High that were the biggest winners when former players from the schools met on the gridiron Friday night. The Colonels defeated Cartersville, 20-12, and drew a crowd of about 2,000, according to Tripp Shaw, event organizer with SFR .

    2 Lady Colonels to play at next level

    Savanna Hutchins and Lynnsey Hollifield, two solid infield softball players at Cass, are taking their games to two well respected junior colleges. Both played on the corners for the Lady Colonels and credit Greg Hight, Cass softball coach, with helping them improve as players and also to take the next step in their athletic careers.

    Prep Player of the Week: Honorable Mention

    Galvin pitched 6 1/3 innings with three hits and four strikeouts in the second game of a sweep of West Hall in the Class AAA playoffs. Bell had three hits, two runs and an RBI.
