    South Shore falls in state playoffs despite record 4...

    South Shore's Brianna Fraser set a New York State Federation tournament record when she scored 46 points, but it wasn't enough for South Shore. The team lost 71-67 to Christ the King in the Class AA girls basketball semifinals in Albany last Friday.

    Extra Innings: Around the schedule for March 31

    Is this high school baseball season finally ready to really kick into gear? Or will potential rains force another weather delay? Eight Staten Island PSAL games were postponed last week, and just four were played. With Island CHSAA teams scheduled for their league openers today, there are five games on the schedule.

    MSIT boys' volleyball takes a positive step forward ...

    The Seagulls sent a message to the PSAL ranks Saturday during the 12-team Robert Kronisch Memorial Tournament at Tottenville High School, compiling a 7-1 record during the marathon session that helps serve as a launching pad to the spring season. "It definitely was a turnaround day for us," said MSIT coach Dave Mahon, whose team advanced to the city championship game last season.

    Remember Staten Island Academy? The team that sits atop SILive.com's girls' basketball top five rankings for Staten Island. The Tigers, mind you, didn't end their season after defeating Tottenville in a non-league contest on Feb. 19. In actuality, SIA, which played an independent schedule this season ... meaning it was not part of a league ... and therefore didn't have playoffs to compete in.

    2015 All-Brooklyn Team: Girls High School Basketball...

    Brooklyn's girls have made the borough proud. Brianna Fraser represents Brooklyn as an All-American, and South Shore brought the city title back home for the first time since 1991.

    New Dorp rides new pitchers to opening win against N...

    Two pitchers making their varsity debuts held New Utrecht scoreless over the final four innings, giving New Dorp the room to rally back for a 4-2 win at home in the PSAL opener. Starter Nick D'Agnese allowed two runs while striking out eight over five innings, while Jose Vasquez came on to strike out five batters over the final two frames.

    Big inning powers Tottenville to 14-3 win over Fort ...

    Tottenville romped in its PSAL season opener, putting together a six-run fourth inning to top host Fort Hamilton, 14-3 in Brooklyn. With the game tied after Fort Hamilton got three runs off Pirate starter John Donohue in the bottom of the third, the Tot bats heated up.

    2015 All-Brooklyn Team: Boys High School Basketball ...

    It was a tough season for boys high school basketball in Brooklyn. Xaverian High School had the only team to make it to the finals, but the Clippers lost to Christ the King, and there were no All-Americans for the fourth time in five years.

    Curtis drops PSAL baseball opener against Lafayette,...

    Curtis scratched its way back against Lafayette, but ultimately dropped its season-opener in St. George on Tuesday afternoon, 3-2. With two games on Monday being postponed, the Warriors and CSI/McCown which lost 17-1 to Lincoln were playing the first league games of the season for Staten Island high school baseball teams.

The federal Title IX anti-discrimination laws increasing college funding for women athletes was enacted about the same time Morano was making the first bus rides from her home on Raymond Pl., West Brighton to St. Peter's Girls High School on Richmond Terr.

    Teams threaten to boycott Federation basketball tour...

    The three-day 2015 Federation Tournament of Champions boys' and girls' basketball tournament schedules were released Monday to the media, but will those particular games beginning on Friday actually be played? Two prominent Public School Athletic League champions - Wings Academy and South Shore - are scheduled to compete in the Dick's Sporting Goods High School Nationals beginning April 2. Federation rules state teams can only compete in one postseason event. Members of the Catholic High School Athletic Association , most notably Christ The King, are disgusted PSAL officials are allowing Wings Academy and South Shore to compete in two events just four days apart and are threatening to boycott the event.
