    When Liberty takes on Sierra Canyon-Chatsworth for the CIF Division 1-A state football title Saturday night at Cerritos College in Norwalk, the Lions will certainly be out of their league in one department. Sierra Canyon is a private school that, according to its own web site, charges $36,250 per year for grades nine through 12. There are some well-heeled alums as well, including the off-spring of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, Jada and Will Smith, Caitlyn Jenner, and Jamie Foxx.

    The Spartans routed Liberty 42-7 to win their 27th consecutive section championship, the past three in the Open Division. They will play Mater Dei-Santa Ana in the state Open championship next weekend at Cerritos College in Norwalk, a rematch of last season's title game that Mater Dei won.

    With 42 unanswered points over the second and third quarters Saturday night, De La Salle erased a 7-0 deficit and turned it into a fourth-quarter running clock and a 42-7 North Coast Section Open Division championship victory at Dublin High. De La Salle sophomore quarterback Dorian Hale rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another, and the Spartans had four interceptions as the program rolled to its 27th consecutive section title.

    After 29 days of waiting because of unhealthy air from the deadliest wildfire the state has ever seen, Liberty broke open a tight game in the second half and rolled past Clayton Valley Charter 42-14 in a North Coast Section Open Division semifinal. Butterfield threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns - two to Sione Vaki - and Tyerell Sturges-Cofer ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns in 16 carries as the Lions advanced to play De La Salle for the championship next week.
