    The Seguin High School girls' basketball program is headed to the UIL playoffs for the first time in eight years after securing at least the fourth seed in District 27-5A with a 60-38 blowout of San Antonio-Kennedy on Friday at Goldie Harris Gym. The Matadors are 11-4 in district play, tied with San Marcos for third place in the standings and two games ahead of fifth-place Boerne-Champion with one game left on the schedule.

    Alamo Heights girls, Champion boys roll to titles

    Boerne Champion's Owen Upchurch and Alamo Heights' Ellery Parish each recorded two meet records as they guided their respective schools to team titles at the Region VIII-5A Championships on Saturday in Corpus Christi. A senior, Upchurch won the 100 freestyle in 45.36 seconds, bettering the previous mark of 46.48 by Corpus Christi Flour Bluff's Anthony Hauglum in 2014.

    High school basketball: Both Seguin teams fall to Tivy

    The Seguin girls' basketball team is still one victory away from clinching a UIL playoff berth after dropping a District 27-5A road game Tuesday night to Kerrville-Tivy 55-51 in overtime. The Matadors led by seven, 37-30, heading into the fourth quarter, but the Antlers rallied to force a 45-45 tie at the end of regulation and outscored Seguin 10-6 in overtime.

    The Seguin boys' basketball team has little margin for error in the District 27-5A playoff race heading into tonight's home game against Kerrville-Tivy at Goldie Harris Gym. With a 6-6 district record and four games left on the schedule, Coach Dwayne Gerlich's Matadors sit in fifth place, 1.5 games out of the fourth and final playoff spot, which is currently occupied by Boerne-Champion .

    The magic number is two for the Seguin girls' basketball team to clinch a playoff berth in District 27-5A after a sound 66-52 thumping of Alamo Heights Tuesday night at the Muledome in San Antonio. Any combination of Seguin wins or Boerne-Champion losses that add up to two during the remainder of the district schedule would secure the Matadors' first trip to the UIL post-season since 2008.

    Mules hand Matadors third straight loss

    The Seguin boys' basketball team dropped another spot in the District 27-5A standings Tuesday night with a 71-64 loss to Alamo Heights at Goldie Harris Gym. The Matadors' third straight defeat relegated them to sixth place with a 5-6 district record, a half-game behind fifth-place San Antonio-Memorial and two games back of fourth-place Boerne-Champion .

    LadyBulldogs defeat Owls, fall to Hounds

    Judi Chesshir photo With 28 seconds left in the game, a Hondo player suffered a serious injury and was taken away in an ambulance. The LadyBulldogs gathered with the LadyOwls in center court to pray together for the injured player.

    Bulldogs ground Owls, get bit by Hounds

    After beating the Hondo Owls on Tuesday, Bandera Bulldog basketball traveled to Boerne Friday night with their 2-0 district record to face the Greyhounds, who were also 2-0 in district. When the final buzzer sounded, the Dogs were down by 20, 27-47.
