    Roundup: Battle Day 5K on August 15

    BENNINGTON >> The Battle Day 5K Road Race returns this year on August 15, with the race scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Beginning and ending at the Monument, there will also be a half-mile Kid's Fun Run after the 5K race. The cost to race is $12 if a racer pre-registers, and $15 on race day.

    Roundup: Reif says goodbye to MAU

    BENNINGTON >> Former Mount Anthony Union High School teacher and boys lacrosse coach Paul Reif is leaving for a new job in Arizona on Saturday, but before he left the coach wanted to address the community. He sent the Banner a letter to run in the sports section.

    The Southern Vermont youth lacrosse camp concluded on a high note this week. Coach and camp director Chris Shea sent this photo of the four-day camp, which hosted more than 40 campers.

    Bellemare top local finisher at VT Am

    JOSH KAUFMANN ST. ALBANS MESSENGER Taylor Bellemare, representing the Mount Anthony Country Club at the 109th Vermont Amateur, was the top local finisher with an 11th place finish.

    SWANTON >> After the first day of the Vermont Amateur Championship, Dorset Field Club member Bill Hadden is in the mix, sitting in a tie for second place with a two-over-par 73 on the day at Champlain Country Club. Paul Heffernan Jr.shot a seven-over 78 for his round, Taylor Bellemare and Duncan Kenyon both shot a nine-over 80 on the first day, Cooper Bleakie shot an 81, as did Jasper Heaton and Keith Komline.
