    Southern stymied by Tomcats, 71-40

    Three minutes into the second quarter, the Southern boys basketball team trailed by just three points, but Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division guest Trimble ended the first half with an 18-5 run and the Tomcats rolled to a 71-40 victory, Tuesday night in Meigs County. The Tomcats shot 50 percent from the field in the opening quarter and led the Tornadoes - who made 30 percent of their first quarter field goal attmepts - by a 17-9 margin at the conclusion of the period.

    Belpre sweeps Lady Falcons, 65-17

The Wahama girls basketball team dropped its 49th consecutive Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division contest Monday night following a 65-17 setback to visiting Belpre at Gary Clark Court in Mason County.

    Lady Raiders edge Belpre

    After trailing 42-34 following the third frame, host River Valley rallied to double up Belpre 18-9 in the final period - and captured a 52-51 win over the non-league Golden Eagles on Saturday night. The contest was also the Raiders' third game in four nights, as River Valley vanquished Point Pleasant in another non-league bout on Thursday.

    Miller, Bedgood power Belpre

    The Belpre boys basketball team turned in a dominant victory Tuesday night at Belpre High School, defeating visiting Federal Hocking in commanding fashion, 79-62. After the visitors jumped out to a quick 7-3 advantage in the opening minutes, the Golden Eagles scored on three straight possessions to cut the Lancers' cushion to one, before taking the lead at the 3:23 mark of the first quarter on a Tavian Miller jumper, to go up 13-11.
