    ACC stuns No. 1 seed Marmion

    Aurora Central Catholic had monster late-game heroics from two separate players in the semifinals of the Class 3A IMSA regional on Tuesday night in Aurora. Czerak, a freshman, hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and later hit a pair of clutch free throws after May had a critical 3-point play in the Chargers' 72-67 victory over the Cadets.

    AURORA – Playing up-tempo and consistently getting open looks, the Aurora Central Catholic boys basketball team's big third quarter helped rout Montini, 64-42, on Monday night in the IHSA Class 3A IMSA Regional opening game. ACC doubled up the Broncos, 34-17, in the first half, hitting its stride from behind the arc to increase the lead.

    Metea Valley's 1-2 repeat feat

    When they called the final two names for athletes to receive their 100-yard breaststroke medals on Saturday at New Trier, the names that followed were the same as they'd been a year ago at the finals in Evanston -- Metea Valley's Matt Salerno and Jordan O'Brien. Salerno took his spot on the second-place starting block, then O'Brien walked and shook hands with the other five finalists before receiving his medal and acknowledging the cheers for winning his second consecutive state title.

    Marmion aligned with that train of thought in late January. Winning eight of their last 10 games the Cadets captured the top seed at the Class 3A Illinois Math and Sciences regional, part of the Rochelle sectional.

    Aurora, Naperville schools primed for state

    The Naperville-area schools are looking pretty good on paper going into this weekend's state swimming and diving meet that starts Friday at New Trier. All five schools in Districts 203 and 204 have qualified all three of their relay teams, races that earn double the points of the individual events.

    IC Catholic stops Aurora Christian

    Hitting 11 off 13 fourth-quarter free throws and all 6 fourth-quarter field goals, IC delivered a 54-46 win over Aurora Christian on Tuesday in a Class 2A Lisle regional semifinal. The Knights, who had lost to Aurora Christian on Jan. 27, face another familiar foe in Friday's 7 p.m. regional semifinal -- top-seeded St. Edward, 3-0 against the Knights this season and a 65-39 winner over Chicago Christian in Tuesday's first semifinal.
