    When Oconee County assistant Tom Gooch took over for baseball coach Stan Fricks five games into the season this spring, he didn't expect the change to be permanent. But when Fricks resigned in May after he was sidelined due to health issues, school officials decided to drop the interim tag and make Gooch the Warriors' permanent leader.

    The East Jackson football team ramped up its off-season schedule last week as the Eagles hosted their first seven-on-seven scrimmages. The seven-on-seven mini camp with Athens Christian and North Forsyth gave the Eagles' skill position players a chance to hone their abilities and test their offense against a live opponent.

    ATHENS Apalachee's Wildcats were in the company of Bulldogs all afternoon Thursday as they got the chance to play between the hedges of Sanford Stadium. Incoming head coach Steve Sims took his new team to the Mark Richt 7-on-7 team camp at the University of Georgia in Athens on Thursday where his players got to experience a blend of quality instruction, valuable practice and one unforgettable experience.
