The best team does not always win the championship. Makes no difference if it is the World Series or the NCAA basketball tournament. The hottest team at the time of the playoffs is the likely winner.

Go Cards!!!

Chris Carpenter was the starting pitcher for the Cardinals in Game 1.

He is from Gainesville, GA. Played at Gainesville High School, and American Legion Post 7. His father taught Industrial Arts there too. He signed with UGA, and became an All-American pitcher there. Played in the Pan Am Games, and won a gold medal. Signed with St. Louis Cardinals.

Local boy done good.

Cris Howell Carpenter (born April 5, 1965, in St. Augustine, Florida) is a former Major League Baseball right-handed pitcher. He is an alumnus of the University of Georgia.

Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1st round of the 1987 MLB amateur draft, Carpenter would make his Major League Baseball debut with the St. Louis Cardinals on May 14, 1988, and appeared in his final game on April 26, 1996 with the Milwaukee Brewers. Over his career, he had 27 wins, 414 1/3 innings pitched, and 252 strikeouts along with a 3.91 ERA. He was used mainly as a relief pitcher.

Cris Carpenter now works at Gainesville High School, in Gainesville, Georgia as a social studies teacher. Carpenter is often confused with the later St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter.

Carpenter was a member of the inaugural Florida Marlins team that began play in Major League Baseball in 1993.

Not to be confused with the current MLB pitchers Chris Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals or Chris Carpenter (baseball, born 1985) of the Chicago Cubs.

Ok, since no one will make a prediction I will go out on a limb and say Cards will win in extra innings. and whether I'm right or wrong, another great game will be seen by all.

well heck, I was wrong in my prediction, sorta like my stockbroker.

But it was a great game up to the end. In the bottom of the 8th, Rangers surged ahead.

It dont look good for the Cards right now but one never knows.
