In fact, when America was first founded, Christmas was outlawed because it was seen as an insult to God.
Rejoicing that Jesus was born in no way insults God...and it can be done every single day...Highlighting His birth for emphasis for the sake of children at Christmas is not wrong.

Legalism is not going to end where days are concerned...like the above poster pointed out if you want to pretend to be perfect in God's eye's even after you make sure you shirt is all one fabric...you eat the proper diet...and worship on the 'right' day...God's standard is yet too high for you. That's why He provided His Son...and that is so that we can put our Faith in Him for all the things we couldn't do...not silly things we can do just to look ridiculously self-righteous...no offense.

Lucky for us all, the bible is a cafeteria bible and we can pick and choose the parts we like and dislike.

I think that's what it comes down to. People will often quote what they believe to be the "nice" parts of the Bible, while all the time disregarding the less savoury scriptures.

Some people see the Bible as the work of man while others see it as the inerrant word of their deity. I doubt there's any divinity behind it as there are too many discrepancies and contradictions for it to have been authored by the most supreme being in our universe.

Perhaps we should look at some of the other holy books that men claim the creator of everything wrote; although I suspect that like the Bible, they too will have their inconsistencies and contradictions.

Right. Towns have more to do with buildings than people to you?

Of course not. No point in living in a well-designed and laid out town if your neighbours are awful.

Anyone who would prefer to call 'Christmas' X-mas wars on 'Christmas'. There are those who can appreciate it as a time of love and giving and chiefly focus on the one who Gave the Gift most beautiful and worthy...and who loves like no one on earth can. No one can celebrate love and giving outside of Christ with a joyful spirit.

Christmas means much to millions of people who don't believe in Jesus.
If you think that Christmas without Jesus is not Christmas, then you're out of touch, and if you think altruism without Jesus is not altruism, then you're a dick.
Did you know Christmas used to be a day of celebration of a different culture until the early Christians took the day, changed the name, and declared it the date of their savior's birth?
Bet you didn't.

I agree in that the season is what people wish to make of it and how people choose to spend it is their business - as long as their festivities don't include breaking the law.
As for the reality of Jesus. Well, that's another matter and while I think it's safe to say that he probably existed; I can say the same of Buddha, Mohammed, Vishnu, etc, all of whom, probably existed.
Why do you think there is a war on Christmas? Do you have a legit reason to believe that?

Actually, I did.

Saturnalia and Yuletide predate Christianity.

Christians had a habit of superimposing their religion on others: Whether it was commandeering local festivals or building churches on what were already sacred sites.

Ps. I hope you're not thinking that I'm a Christian.

Seeing as I was the only one to actually vote "no" for the poll I assumed you had voted the opposite way.

Not at all - I just hadn't bothered to vote.

I'll do it now...
