It's so freakng annoying if someones asks you what kind of "coke" you would like when they are really referring to soda. Dx

LOL, soda water is the term I grew up with though I generally refer to it by brand name when ordering one in an establishment.
My family came to Austin in 1848 and oral history talks of going to Tom Moore General Store on the corner of 6th and Congress for a soda and or a float. This was after the War of Northern Aggression right up until the later 1890s.
In 1881 they hitched their wagons to come watch the capital building burn as they wanted to cheer yankee legislatures roast as they were in session. There was a large crowd and the fire department had a hard time laying out hose long enough to reach the nearest hydrant, half a mile or more away.
Not long after the war Yankee Carpetbaggers were also routinely tarred, feathered, and then thrown off of the new and then only bridge over the river, a pontoon bridge. People would pay a nickle just to watch and jeer.

Its what i grew up calling it. Soda is the 1st word in soda-pop

In Texas it is called Coke, no matter what you are actualyl referring to. I am from Texas but out in the country we called it pop.
