That's an interesting perspective.

How is 50% of the population being dependent upon the government in some way or other any different than your peasants and royalty scenario? They either work for the government, or derive their income and other needs from the government. To wit, the government is the "royalty" and the peasants must accept what they are given.

The only difference between them and private sector employees are that government can reduce benefits without the recipient having any recourse, whereas an employer that changes the terms of employment runs the risk of losing their most valuable employees to employers who aren't dicks.

There is another difference. The business has to remain fiscally sound. The government can just borrow more money, until the whole thing collapses.

Personally, I'd rather have less and be free, than have more and be enslaved by dependency. Your mileage may vary.

I would much rather have a successful businessman running thi country than a failed Chicago community leader . Quit worrying about what Romney did with his money and start worrying what Obama has done with yours.

Romney and his goons recently made a stop here. He charged $1,000 per plate at his little party in my town, effectively excluding pretty much everyone.
Did he also have the $25,000 VIP package available for those with more dedication and deeper pockets? It appears that your hero likes to purposely exclude common working folk from his little ass-kissing parties.
The sad thing is that Obama did the exact same thing a few weeks before. Were they maybe afraid of what we might say?
And yes, I'm a former Buckhannon resident who has moved on to bigger and better things.

Both parties look at WV as a State not needed to win. What is really bad is we now have one Senator who agrees with Obama concerning the Coal industry. Now is when we really are going to miss Senator Byrd. Democrats and Republicans both respected him and he had enough years to get a lot of things for WV. If we lose our coal workers we are really going to be in trouble. Not saying who to vote for just saying check out what is being said about the economics in WV.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I spent my entire life in WV until two years ago and still consider myself West Virginian first and foremost. What is happening there worries me.
The coal industry has been the red-headed stepchild to some and a necessary evil to others as long as I can remember. It's actually a way of life and a source of income and it angers me that politicians can't seem to understand that if they kill the industry, they cripple our state. But like you said, it's not a state that either are concerned with so it doesn't matter to them.
This is what angers me the most about politicians. They kiss the asses of those who can get them elected and the hell with everybody else.

Yeah right, if Romney gets elected and he shuts down social security + medicare/medicaid it will be civil war 2.0 and I'll be the god damn general.

Do you actually believe Romney can shut dow Social security and medicare/medicade?You need to talk to a senior citizen now who has worked all his life and now for the last four years his social security has gone down, medicare has gone up. No one has to "shut down" social security and medicare. They just have to do as they (and I mean the Democratic government under Obama)have been doing and chip away at it a little at a time and hope noone notices.

Geee I didn't know we had such a large oil industry here. I have no idea what you think Obama has done to the gas industry they are drilling any place they want. They have hundreds of wells they just drilled and capped. The gas supplies are one of the reasons the coal production is down so why aren't you complaining to them. Cheap gas is the reason the power plants are switching from coal. I don't know why everyone is so pissed coal mining is an honest enough job but it won't be around forever. For gods sake people get your children an education and get them out of the ground. Don't you want better for them? What we need are some good manufacturing jobs here. West Virginians are hard workers but you don't have to crawl in a hole to earn a living. As far as helping West Virgina if I were President and 42% of this state voted for a convicted felon serving a 16 year sentence in Texas I would try to have you removed from the country. I have never seen so many people vote against their best interest in my life.

Romney's welfare IS the top 1%. People who have made their money off the backs and sweat of others and now after paying less taxes than I do, they now want to pay less. Their reasoning is that they are the "job creaters". Where are the jobs they have created? His "business sense is what its always been. What's best for his bank account is what's best.
