Still needed, for at least another 20 - 30 years until readily available, AFFORDABLE, and sufficiently usable alternatives are developed and proven.

The amount of oil that we can get from off shore drilling is a drop in the bucket according to our needs. We will still be primarily importing. However, the destruction to our shores is inexcusable and destruction of natural life that can never be replaced. Supporting destroying our world is inexcusable, unethical and immoral. Destroying our environment sickens me, but people who support it ... There are not strong enough words to express my disgust.

Instead,REQUIRE oil companies to relinquish, to the public,ALL the energy saving devices that they have secreted away...

Are we kidding ourselves? The Gulf of Mexico is a biohazard and this should be OUR turning point. Innocent lives have been lost due to oil consumption, personally i'm riding my bike. I can't believe that any person who has actually seen ariel live footage that this is OK. This mud volcano will be very difficult to stop and we need to allow the international community to help.

I agree completely! But, how can we make them publish or release all those patents they bought for alternative energy? So many inventors saw their great inventions bought under false pretenses, and buried where the sun doesn't shine. Maybe these companies could be forced to release them as a matter of National Security. If that reason can be used to deny constitutional rights, surely it can be used to defy simple commercial intertests? Oh, how naive I remain!

It is much safer to drill closer due to the depth of the water. If the drilling had happened at a 100 feet depth, the fix would had been much easier than working at 5000 feet.

only an idiot or a liberal democrap (same thing) would ban off shore drilling after one mishap in over 21,000 sites!

these rigs will move to other countries to make billions for those countries - and it is the only thing that keeps oil prices steady - look for $7 -$8 a gallon with presidunce odumba's newest stupid move!

hell, even the federal courts just told odumba today to shove it up his socialist azz!

putting 200,000+ more in the unemployment line seems like the stupidest thing that one could do - but than again, we are talking about odumba!!!!!

Green energy is pie in the sky. Oil and natural gas are available, and they're dependable sources of energy. What happened in the Gulf with BP was an accident, that should not have happened and would not have happened if the environmentalists hadn't pushed the drilling rig into such deep water. The Gulf contains enough oil and natural gas to significantly reduce our dependence on foreign imports. To shut down drilling rigs only puts more people out of work, and solves no current problem, it only highlights Obama's lack of leaadership skills.

The oil company said they had the technology to drill in the oceans and to contain or handle large spills they are liars

The accident was a fluke by a careless company.

It is coming to a shore near you soon. Cuba to be exact....Chinese drills and safety concerns for the environment...That is exactly what we do NOT need.
