Better controls/techiques should be implemented to prevent such blowouts before resuming this essential process. Alternates should be included.

We need to rely on our own resources and stop financing our enemies. Put the money into our country.

What we need is to find alternative energy resources and stop drilling (on shore and off shore) all together. America's addiction to oil is destroying the planet! Americans consume over 25% of the worlds oil and only hold/supply 2%.
Are you aware of the process of drilling for oil? Educate yourself and your opinion may change.
If you are interested or even care about what happens to mother nature and the people that live around drilling sites; check out these documentaries:

I do not agree with drilling onshore or offshore. America's addiction to oil is destroying our planet. Finding alternative energy resources for powering vehicles should be number one priority for the leaders of america.
During the drilling process, land is destroyed by contamination of the 500+ chemicals used in the "fracing fluid" and the drilling of 8,000 ft into the ground, and millions of gallons of water are wasted.
STOP DRILLING NOW!!!!!!
Nissan is releasing the Leaf the end of 2010, a 100% electric car. Hopefully this will catch on and be one thing that brings oil companies down!!!
