The fire trucks are already busy! Oil companies depend on the SAME cleanup crews and equipment already deployed in the gulf, so they have NO MORE equipment or crews if there is another spill until this one is over. Would you drive with no brakes?

It needs to continue. However the safety precautions need to be seriously looked at and investigated. To drill with no safety plan in place for the worst case scenario is just plain ludicrous. This is where the profits get in the way of moral accountability.

It endangers too many fragile ecosystems, and usually doesn't yield that much oil.

The burgeoning requests for expanding offshore drilling is driven not so much by need as the greed of the oil companies to increase their profits.
The entire process of applying for permits, studies to guarantee safety and protection of surrounding wilderness, and the competency of the companies themselves to maintain their equipment has come under increasing scrutiny as the muddied interplay between the oil companies & government officials charged with granting permits is exposed.
I'd like to call a halt to ANY further offshore drilling permits until the process is revamped, and our efforts are redirected primarily to other means of creating energy to meet our needs.

Really? Got proof? How do they profit when there isn't a need?
